tl;dr: OpenBSD 8.0, the 61st release, ships with expanded amd64 kernel virtual address space (4G to 512G), hibernate support on arm64, RISC-V vector extension and Advanced Interrupt Architecture support, and sparc64 switched to the LLVM toolchain while loongson support is retired. VMM/VMD gains MP support for up to 64 VCPUs per guest, and drm(4) is updated to Linux 6.18.53 with Intel Arc A-Series graphics support. Bundled updates include LibreSSL 4.4.0, OpenSSH 10.6 (which disables ssh's LZ77 dictionary coder for a side-channel fix), and a new rtrd(8) RPKI-To-Router daemon.
HN Discussion:
  • ↑OpenBSD feels like a proper Unix system with sensible defaults and great documentation
  • ↑OpenBSD is remarkably stable and runs well on old laptop hardware as a daily driver
  • ↑Sysupgrade works smoothly across multiple release upgrades
  • •Questions about versioning scheme and SMP networking benchmarks
  • ↓Complaints about specific issues like requiring a monitor for upgrades or disliking the release artwork
