Android apps running native on macOS(github.com)

tl;dr: Mac.apk runs Android apps natively on Apple Silicon Macs without an emulator, VM, or Linux kernel—implementing the Android application environment directly on top of macOS, with apps appearing as normal Mac windows using the GPU and CPU at native speed. It's alpha software requiring macOS 26.4+ (Tahoe), open source under AGPL v3.0, and installs APKs via drag-and-drop. Note that Android apps run with full user permissions (no sandbox), so only install APKs from trusted sources.
HN Discussion:
  • ~Impressive technical achievement but questionable design choice storing app data inside the .app file
  • ~Google Play Services dependencies will limit practical usefulness despite being cool
  • ↑Useful for specific gaps like playing Minecraft Bedrock with console/mobile players on Mac
  • ↑Impressive use of AI/Claude to build the ARM translator, encouraging more such efforts
  • •Would prefer this capability on iOS rather than macOS, where need is greater
