tl;dr: Estonia has published the source code of its online voting system on GitHub for public review. The repository isn't used for active development—which is supervised by the State Electoral Office of Estonia—but is kept in sync with the code actually deployed in legally binding elections.
HN Discussion:
  • ~No software system alone can guarantee election security; manual verification is still needed
  • ↑Estonians trust and widely accept the e-voting system; openness is appreciated
  • ~System works now due to public trust, but concern about future erosion of that trust
  • •Other open-source election systems already exist and are in real use
  • ↓Sufficiently incentivized attackers (e.g. nation-states) will inevitably compromise e-voting
