Making big downloads resumable in Firefox(lunarwatcher.codeberg.page)

tl;dr: Firefox's default `network.http.response.timeout` of 300 seconds appears to break resumable large downloads, causing it to ignore existing `.part` files on error. Setting the value to 0 (or very high) in about:config experimentally restores resume functionality and improves stability, though the author didn't verify this against Firefox source. As a fallback, `wget -c` handles resumable downloads more reliably.
HN Discussion:
  • ~Workaround via VPS and cURL is more reliable than fixing Firefox's download behavior
  • ~External download managers like aria2, IDM, NDM are superior alternatives to browser downloads
  • ↑Firefox's poor fault tolerance and timeout handling reflects broader engineering negligence
  • ↑Firefox download resume issues are long-standing known bugs
  • ↓Skeptical that timeout setting is the real cause since defaults have worked fine
