Claude Code reads AGENTS.md only when telemetry is on [fixed](blog.szypowi.cz)

tl;dr: Claude Code 2.1.277's new AGENTS.md support is gated behind a remote feature flag (`tengu_agents_md_mod`) that fails closed when telemetry is disabled, meaning users with `DISABLE_TELEMETRY=1` or `CLAUDE_CODE_DISABLE_NONESSENTIAL_TRAFFIC=1` silently get no AGENTS.md loading—despite it being a purely local file read. The same issue affects Bedrock, Vertex, and third-party gateway users, with no warning that the file was skipped. Workaround: create a one-line `CLAUDE.md` containing `@AGENTS.md`, since CLAUDE.md imports don't depend on the flag.
HN Discussion:

  • ↑This bug reflects broader problems with sloppy AI-generated code piling up without review
  • ↓Feature flags for progressive rollout are standard practice and this confusion is unwarranted
